The Saginaw Bay City & Mackinaw Railway is a Proto-Freelance Railroad operating in the states of, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri.

The SB&M was formed due to not being able to choose just one specific railroad between the Wabash, C&O, B&LE and the Monon railroads. So I took parts that I liked each of railroad and the SB&M was brought to life.

Creating the SB&M was a allot of work from spending countless hours working on the logo / railroad name to doing research on rail lines that the SB&M would run on. Oh ya and all the questions to friends about paint scheme and rail-lines the SB&M would run on. The one thing about going proto-freelance vs. a railroad that existed is "you" have to and write your railroads history to the point that it could have existed with everything from paint schemes to rail-lines and locomotives and you have to keep in mind that it must be plausible. Were railroads like the C&O and the Wabash the history is already there! The Proto-Freelance aspect to model railroading is just one of the many things that make this hobby so much fun to last a life time. Please click on the links above to learn more about the Saginaw Bay City & Mackinaw Railway. I hope you enjoy reading about it as much as I have putting it together.
